When you say Oct. 71 DPs are you referring to Dick's Picks 2. If so he is absent from the mix entirely. Was he actually at the show? I posted a thread a while back asking why he isn't there but got no response. I think I would probably agree with you about this being THE transition period. I wonder if anyone around here was there and would love to hear what they thought about this new dead sound. I can only imagine the disappointment some heads had going to a show expecting dark star other ones and getting a shit ton of 5 minute rock and roll songs. "the dead are washed up, man..."

Yes it is quite unfortunate that atheists are seen as evil. I'd rather be seen as evil than be an ignoramus, personally.
I also find it quite disheartening that you must proclaim faith ("believing what you know ain't so") to be the president of this country. Its far better to do good for goodness sake than out of fear of other worldly repercussions. People think that denying god makes people think they can do whatever they want, it hasn't for me, and as I've become more of an atheist, if thats possible, i've become much more a person who focuses on being good, but there is no correlation between the two, just maturing thats all. Don't get me started on religion Mr. Tell, fucking intellectual poison.

Damn--there goes the memory short circuit again; he is LOW in the DP? I have that, but I was thinking I had a tape of that show and he was high, or at least audible in some jam interchanges with Jerry, but I could be completely off...I know CLIFF would be able to clear things up now that I've muddied it...if you had posted that, ie, listened lately, then I'd defer to that. Hmmm, maybe this is why I stay out of DEAD posts, lately, eh? Crap.

Hey, I agree with you and Arb, re: religion...it was just so shocking to hear it, the NPR broadcast, I almost didn't believe it, but wife was in the car and exclaimed "did you hear that!?" so we both had the same impression...maybe we heard it wrong; I think you can visit their website for segments like that.

Well, about DP 2, I believe I am wrong. If you listen very very closely you can hear him, and that is only at some spots during the six tracks. But he is near inaudible. I had trouble finding him from the source available here with the other songs from the show as well.

But I guess the question still remains, why is he so low when he is soo upfront in all of the other shows I've heard from this period?

And you didn't hear them wrong on NPR. I've also heard similar stats about atheists.
